History of API Maintenance Systems

API Maintenance Systems has an extensive and prestigious background founded in the mid 1980’s out of necessity by the Swedish SKF group. The Swedish SKF group needed a program to help alleviate paperwork and communication issues. By the late 80’s SKF Maintenance Systems A/S was established in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The letters “API” in API Maintenance Systems are the initials of “Analyze, Planning and Information”.

In 1995 the company was acquired by the stock listed Swedish IT consulting group Frontec AB. This acquisition precipitated a name change to Frontec Maintenance Systems. During the next 7 years a handful of local (API) subsidiaries were established in Northwestern Europe.

By 2002 API Maintenance Systems was purchased by the Swedish investment company Seaside Group AB. This group retained the company until it was sold in 2013 to the Danish private equity fund Capidea. Capidea makes long-term investments in competitive small and medium enterprises and still owns the company today.

API Maintenance Systems have always had an international approach. Their initial relations with the SKF group and distribution network launched them in the international market. During the last 10 years they have grown significantly and are at the forefront of global leaders of Enterprise Asset Management systems.
